Chick-fil-A in Lewisville Will be Demolished • Irving Fire Station Sidelined Due to Fire • Carrollton to Develop Area Between Highways • Looking Back on the Year That Was
This week’s first three articles are about news from neighboring cities, but I believe each of them will be of interest to Coppell residents — especially the first one.
Chick-fil-A in Lewisville Will be Demolished
In last week’s edition, I reported that the Chick-fil-A on Round Grove Road in Lewisville would be demolished in March. That was inaccurate. According to a form filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the demolition is actually scheduled for May 3.
That form also says the Chick-fil-A should be rebuilt by Oct. 2. Assuming the contractors can adhere to that timeline, the restaurant’s devoted followers will have to get their chicken elsewhere for about five months — or 153 days, to be exact.
Another Chick-fil-A near Coppell was demolished and replaced a few years ago. The restaurant at MacArthur Boulevard and Interstate 635 in Irving was knocked down in September of 2019, and its on-site replacement began serving sandwiches and nuggets the following March. Based on social media posts I dug up on either end of that process, it took 163 days.
Since publishing last week’s edition, I have obtained a copy of the plans Chick-fil-A has submitted to the City of Lewisville. The MEP (mechanical, engineering, and plumbing) site plan shows that the new building’s footprint will be perpendicular in relation to the existing building.
Meanwhile, the tree preservation plan illustrates that the new restaurant will feature a second drive-thru lane. It also shows that customers will order on the west side of the building and pick up their food on the east side. Additionally, there will no longer be any parking spaces along Round Grove; anybody who wants to go inside will park on the north side of the building.
Those who choose to go inside will enjoy a slightly larger restaurant. According to the Denton Central Appraisal District, the existing Chick-fil-A has 4,243 square feet of interior space. The new building will be 4,588 square feet.
I emailed Daniel Carper, the Chick-fil-A developer whose name is on all the documents that inspired this article, to ask what prompted these renovation plans. Because I emailed him between Christmas and New Year’s, I didn’t expect a response, and that expectation was met.
(If you’re wondering why I dedicated an entire article to a Chick-fil-A, then you ought to read “Coppell Really Wants to ‘Eat Mor Chikin’” in Vol. 4, No. 23.)
Irving Fire Station Sidelined Due to Fire
Coppell’s firefighters are providing cover until a burned Irving fire station can be replaced.
Fire Station 9 is on Jetstar Drive, just a couple of blocks north of State Highway 114, in an area within the boundaries of Coppell ISD. The structure was damaged by a fire on Nov. 9, when its personnel were training off site.
Fire Chief Victor Conley told the Irving City Council that his staff and an insurance company were not able to pinpoint the blaze’s cause. “If they don’t know beyond the shadow of a doubt, they have to put ‘undetermined/accidental,’” Conley said during the council’s work session on Dec. 12, when he displayed photos of the damage.
