Four years into this weekly effort, I still get genuinely excited when I have an opportunity to break news to my friends and neighbors. Without further ado, let’s break some.

Coppell Greens Flanked by Pickleball Plans

I hope the residents of Coppell Greens like pickleball, because they may soon have two venues for the sport on the edges of their neighborhood.

One of them is already there. Vistara Sports has offered indoor courts for pickleball and badminton on Vista Ridge Mall Drive since August of 2023. That facility’s owners have acquired another acre immediately to the west, and they want to expand their operation by adding 12 outdoor pickleball courts plus a clubhouse.

Vistara Sports’ expanded property is outlined in red. The blue line is the boundary separating Coppell and Lewisville.

Vistara’s property straddles the border of Coppell and Lewisville, which led the cities to sign an agreement in 2019 regarding how water, sewer, and trash services would be handled. The expansion plans necessitated an amendment to the agreement, which both cities’ councils approved this month.

Before the new courts can be built, Vistara needs to acquire a special use permit for outdoor amusement. That permit will be the subject of a public hearing before the Lewisville Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday.

Two days later, the Coppell Planning and Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing about a separate pickleball proposal. A developer wants to construct a 17,655-square-foot building along State Highway 121, on the vacant lot west of L.A. Fitness. This “Coppell Entertainment Plaza” would contain five pickleball courts, a 2,500-square-foot restaurant, and 2,200 square feet of retail space.

This rendering of the Coppell Entertainment Plaza was attached to the agenda for Thursday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

A company called Coppell PKB acquired the land along 121 in December. If you zoom in on that property on Google Maps, you’ll see that it’s already associated with a business called Indoor Pickleball X. That business’s website bills the yet-to-be-approved concept as “your 24/7 pickleball haven.”

Tuesday’s hearing will begin after 6:30 p.m. at Lewisville City Hall. Thursday’s hearing will happen after 6:30 p.m. at Coppell Town Center. If you can’t make it to either one, meet me back here next Sunday to find out what happened.

Thanks for reading the Coppell Chronicle! This article is public, so feel free to share it.

Vacant Lot on Sandy Lake Changes Hands

My family has lived in Coppell for a dozen years, and it seems like the 2-acre lot across Sandy Lake Road from Sprouts has been for sale the entire time. But it finally sold last month.
