Town Center Slated for Closure … Eventually • Closed School Would Become Temporary Site • CISD Aims to Pivot from Defense to Offense • Proposed Attendance Zones May Affect You
I enjoy your writing. It’s almost like talking to an informed friend! I suggest to everyone to subscribe to your Chronicle every chance I get for selfish reasons—-I want you to continue The Coppell Chronicle. It helps me stay connected to my city. Thank you!
I hope there is a significant amount of informed, thoughtful discussion about digital signage in Old Town. I can understand the desire to promote activities there, but digital signs don’t fit my image of what Old Town should be all about. Speaking of digital, I was extremely intrigued to read about the possibility of an elementary school program based on low or no tech. Again, curious to know what that would look like. I have visions of my elementary school decades ago, long before the internet, and I’m not sure going backwards is the way to go.
The idea of a low/ no technology option is a good one. However, having it confined to one school is not. What about kids who are in other programs at other schools and dont have the option to move to a different school? Also, what about those students who are zoned for that school, but their parents want them to have technology? There should be several schools around the district that have that option maybe even one class per grade per school. There's going to be more demand for that than we think.
I also have a problem with our tax $ being spent on billboards. People who are taking the time to actively take out their kids from CISD and put them into charter or private school know about CISD and choose not to send their child there. A billboard is not going to change that. It takes a lot of effort to find a private/ charter school for kids. We need to be asking potential Kindergarten families who chose charter/private schools why they chose that. Here are my reasons: Rigor, too much technology, religion. I have a 2nd grader and a pre-kindergartener at a private school. I also have a Kindergartener at Lakeside due to special needs.
I agree, but we gotta start somewhere. I'm pretty sure if iPads were confined to one classroom like ste(a)m it would help a lot, but we can't know unless we do _something_ we can't continue to do nothing and push it further down the road.
My main problem with the technology is the iPads. There is no reason why my kindergartener needs an iPad. I like the interactive white boards and all that.
Dan, thanks for bringing up the July 2 email with the Town Center plan. Unfortunately, the response from the admin doesn't really provide any clarity, at least to me. Maybe there is somebody much smarter than me that took some comfort in that response that it wasn't already the admins plan as early as June/July...

“CISD”…. what a painful mess!
So glad both of mine have graduated (2023).
Regarding your “Subscribers”, I wish those numbers were reversed!
Can’t wait to read the “Dog-related” story!!

Bring back computer labs! hah.
Come to a school board open forum and speak your opinion on iPads. Or email the district. The more folks bring it up the sooner it'll get fixed.
