H-E-B Announces Opening Date of June 17
I bet you’ve heard by now that the H-E-B in the Irving portion of Coppell ISD will start welcoming customers on June 17. The iconic grocery chain revealed the opening date for its first Dallas County store last Monday, when a press release was apparently sent to The Dallas Morning News, Channel 8, CultureMap Dallas, and other media outlets.
You know who didn’t get a copy of that press release? The dude who predicted in January of 2024 that H-E-B would construct a store along the westbound service road of Interstate 635. The dude who reported seven months later that the construction paperwork had been filed, news that was published before the store was officially announced. The dude who traded emails with an H-E-B spokesperson about the press release’s topic just two months ago.
But, hey, it’s cool. Whatever. I didn’t really want to know about the opening date anyway. Besides, I’ve got plans for that Wednesday morning. I’ll be perusing the marked-down meat at Market Street after grabbing some store-brand potato chips and trail mix at Kroger.
Soccer Association Reports Resident Rates
With a global soccer event about to begin1, now seems like a good time to check in on the local version of the world’s most popular sport.
Coppell Youth Soccer Association officials presented their annual report to the Coppell Parks and Recreation Board last week, and as always, the percentage of players who reside in the city was a topic of discussion.
All of the local youth sports associations are supposed to ensure that at least 75 percent of their participants are Coppell residents. Last fall, 57 percent of the kids playing in the Coppell Youth Soccer Association lived within the city limits. In the spring season, that stat increased to 59 percent.
