Thanks for another great one, Dan!

HB 4072 has been a hot topic for a few months now, and it’s getting more & more attention as the Bill moves along and more folks are paying attention. Cities across Texas have expressed serious concerns and are budgeting and preparing for the worst IF this dastardly Bill does indeed pass (god forbid). All Businesses, particularly small business, should be very concerned about this Bill. Yikes!! 😧👎😞

The sales tax issue was known and the likely outcome obvious several years ago. It was a key concern some folks had during the vote to expand the use of the sales tax so the Life Safety Park and Arts Center could be built. The city ran sensitivities about what it would mean - and the narrative at the time was that it would be annoying if we lost the sales tax income, but that the city could absorb it. I was someone who was against the broad expansion of spending associated with the sales tax at the time and found it odd that proponents often cited that 65% of that tax comes from folks outside Coppell as part of the rationale for spending it. So not really surprised that these other communities see that money as "theirs" and want it back.
