Let’s Dampen Our Lawns’ Dampening • Council Limits Scope of Belt Line Grants • Ethics Review Panel’s Roster Approved • Farmstead OK’d at Blackberry Farm
Really enjoy the weekly newspaper. A couple of things from the most recent edition: 1) based on names alone, it seems that the new Ethics Review Panel is comprised entirely of the white race. My wild guess is that Coppell is about 60% (at most) white. 2) with the bigger lot, additional structures including a cabana, windmill, etc, etc, for one person at Blackberry Farms, the precedent will be established for all others wanting anything at all similar. It should be extremely hard for the city to argue that what is ok for one individual is not for anyone else.
Blackberry Farms. Holmes was our neighbor for years. Nice family. He’s built many custom homes within Coppell including the 13 that went up 20+ years ago on the 5 acres (that had a couple of cows) directly across from our home. I have very mixed feelings about BBF. Initially, I was horrified that another beneficial patch of (natural) land was being swallowed up and developed. And, after reading your previous edition of an occupied Bald Eagle’s nest located on that property while workers were clearing off the trees- I was heart sick. But yes, thankfully, that nest is protected (for now), but it’s highly likely that pair of Eagles may/will eventually move out due to the loss of habitat and other impactful human activities. Not too mention other wildlife that will surely be impacted.
Congratulations to Mr. Holmes though. He is finally getting a dream “farm” for his family. He bought the land, pitched his BBF plan to countless council members since 1999, stayed true no matter the objections or obstacles he faced. In the end, Mr. Holmes prevailed. I’m sure he and his family are relieved and over-joyed.
“Death by a thousand cuts” - the way a major negative change which happens slowly in many unnoticed increments is not perceived as objectionable.
Thank you for spending 5 hours at the City Council meeting to keep us informed!
Donna, I didn't want to imply that I attended this particular meeting. But I did spend five hours watching the video recordings of it. ;)
Well, thank you for your honesty and thank you for watching g Z 5 hr video👍🏻
