Thanks, Dan, for all your efforts bringing us the hot news of our little corner of the universe! By the way, the Coppell Chess Club appears to be up and running (https://coppellchessclub.com)...maybe a little update? Thanks again!

I'm sad to read about the house on Bethel Road being torn down for a garage!! Reminds me of the Joni Mitchell song about putting up a parking lot. This is a very historical house that is being destroyed for the wealth of someone's collection. No one values beauty anymore in their natural settings. This is an example of greed and excess wealth. Coppell loses another valuable piece of property.

Janet, I sympathize. It’s been sad to see Every square inch of land in Coppell become developed. The Black Berry Farms project (50+ acres) is another natural land/habitat loss in our area. I liken it to “death by a thousand cuts”.

Well, the old house is owned by the family that built it when Coppell was barely wide spot on the road. Do you think you should have the power to veto what they do with their property? You're the interloper here, not the owners of the property...

The family that bought it is from NY I believe. That house has been here almost as long as I have which is 38 years! Still sad to see it torn down.

Well Janet, I've just now read your comments, please get your facts straight. My husband and I have lived, worshiped and raised our children in Coppell for the last 30 years. We began planning and building our current home next door to the house on Bethel 20 years ago. Prior to that we built and lived for 12 years in a home across the creek from the land we now live on. Both of our children have returned to Coppell to live and raise their families. I'm proud that my family has lived and died in North and East Texas, not New York, for more than FOUR generations. My grandmother was from the Hogg and Houston side of the family, if that means anything to you. You? Are you that connected to Texas history?

As for the property, we purchased it 4 years ago, without ever stepping inside the house, to prevent a developer from buying and dividing the land, removing trees and building two more McMansions. Since purchasing the site we've spent hundreds of hours researching the land deeds, surveys and divisions, as well as the home and its previous owners, trying to understand everything possible about its history and significance to Coppell and North Texas. We invested many thousands of dollars with consultants trying to determine if we could save the structure that had been neglected for many years, and if the funds necessary could in any way be justified. Unfortunately, anything original to the home had been stripped many years before we ever took possession. What one could see from the outside, while in my opinion lovely, was structurally unsound and cost prohibitive to restore. Ultimately, is was decided that the best we could hope for was to donate what was useable, repurpose the stone and protect the trees.

Those that know us know we will respect the land and its inhabitants. We would be more than happy to provide photos of the interior if you question our decisions. If you find that greedy and excessive you clearly know nothing about us and our contributions to this community that we love.

The principal at my son's private school told us several months ago that it is very difficult to find teachers and subs period. It's apparently not just public schools -- contrary to what random people on the internet might say.

Thank you for another great Coppell update. I'd love to see a display of the antique car collection.

Based on a talk I had just today with one of the longtime employees at the Petco by Tom Thumb, I can confirm it's closing and relocating up at the shopping center at MacArthur and Round Grove Rd. (where 1/2 Price Books is located). The grooming salon will be fully moved by the 29th of this month with the rest of the store moving in September.

I enjoys the upbeat news that made me smile. I’m sorry to hear about the teacher shortage in Coppell…..and everywhere! Thank you!

Really sad that a home that represents 1940’s Coppell may be torn down for a multi-story garage. That will really change the character of that area.
