Lewisville’s three landfills will likely become parkland after they close for good, but Hearon’s presentation did not address where waste would be taken after that. So I put that question to Republic Services’ media relations department. The unsigned reply to my email said, “Once a landfill nears capacity, an expansion would be required or an alternative site would need to be identified.” Oh, you think so, Doctor?

Let me first say I am so glad I subscribed to your weekly newsletter. I was wondering if you could touch on the continuing problem of trash vs. critters that has become a continuing problem at least in my neighborhood of Gibbs Station. Twice this week I have seen overturned trash cans with garbage strewn up and down the alleyway. The sanitation crew isn’t responsible for picking this up so it is left to the neighbors to clean up your mess in our yards. Many people are confused into thinking a locking top on their trash can suffices to keep the critters out but they are a tenacious group. I have seen people use bungee cords and bricks in an attempt at securing their trash the night before pickup to no avail. I myself have resorted some time ago to keeping my trash under a locked lid in the garage until the morning of trash pickup. Thankfully the roaches haven’t found a way in and the lid keeps the smell away. I read something recently about doing away with trash cans altogether. This would be a big NO from me as I have first hand witnessed the aftermath of a huge rat infestation in Dallas county some 35 years ago when they tried to implement this. Locking trash cans are a misnomer and bags alone would be even worse. I have discussed this with the Lakes of Coppell HMO last year to no avail. Maybe you can do better. Anything would be helpful. Thank you for your consideration,

What a loss to the community that the mayor & others did not get to hear Mr. Phil LaBerge’s comments on a military monument & its location. Mr. LaBerge is an esteemed member of the Coppell Historical Society. When he stands to give our membership his opinions & research, believe me we all listen! Then we applaud & thank him for his great attention to detail & his great knowledge about Coppell & all our connected issues. After that, we ask him to follow up on many other issues with his special skills & devotion to our city. Please, refer to our president, Chris Long, & her husband, Cliff Long, to confirm this fact. He’s also the only member of our historical society who has visited the homes of our namesake founder George Coppell & his family. I suggest that everyone, especially our brave reporter, give Phil Laberge your full attention when he asks to speak. We will all benefit. Your concerned neighbor, Martha-Allison Blewer

Mr. LaBerge has expressed his views on this project during at least four public meetings. The City Council is well aware of how he feels.

Hi Dan. Any idea where I can get more info on the Coppell bond offering. I could not find much on rating, return, etc. I found just that all the bond asks passed.
