Thank you for explaining "Project Graduation". I've lived here for 5 years and have heard the term every year, but never knew what it was.

Interesting comments. Facts are indeed facts. But there seems to be Alternate Facts here too. There is only 1 (true) State Champion, right?

Without getting into the hockey debate, that statement isn’t true for UIL-sanctioned sports. Last spring, six baseball teams got state championship trophies from the UIL -- one for each classification. Next month, the UIL will give out state championship trophies to 12 football teams -- two for each classification.

Coppell HS Hockey are also 2023 State Champions. It looks like I need to make a few phone calls.

Sorry but Coppell hockey was NOT state champions in 2020, 2021 or 2022. Coppell did not even qualify for the state tournament. There are 2 divisions of state champions Div 1 and Div 2. They both rep Texas at the USA hockey national championships. Coppell did not go to Nationals any of these years.

Coppell did participate and win a “best of the rest” tournament that exists to earn $$$ for the Dallas Stars. They called it Div 2a which only exists in TX and USA hockey doesn’t claim.

Other schools will come to old town to mock if that gets out on the silo. My sons, who have played 3 years at Nationals and won the National title in 2017, will be so embarrassed.

Texas Amateur Hockey Association 2A State Champions 2020, 2021, and 2023. Feel free to see our newest State Championship Banner and all of our State Championship trophies (including our 2003 Trophy) in our Trophy case at the high school.

I disagree with what you said and the tone in which you said it.

It’s not a real state championship. In fact one of the wins was earned while the real state champions Flower Mound were at Nationals. Please find where USA hockey recognizes Division 2a? It doesn’t. Coppell hasn’t even qualified for the division 2 state tournament since 2016.

Again I disagree - Texas Amateur Hockey Association designated the classifications. TAHA gave out the Championships. It may not be real to you but it is real to our players and families. (And to TAHA).

From TAHA website.

The 2A & 2B subdivision is for teams that did not participate in the D II Blended or D I Pure TAHA State Tournament leading to the USAH National Tournament and play in the Silver & Bronze Divisions in DFW.

It’s a made up bracket for teams that don’t qualify for the state tournament. You can’t be a state varsity champion if you don’t play Gold. Coppell hasn’t played gold since 2016. It also denigrates the achievement of the 2003 team which actually won state.

Maybe we can call it the "Dallas Stars fundraising State Champs". Or participation trophy State Champs. Don't really have a horse in this race but prefer Coppell not get involved in non-real championships. aka participation trophies.
