I agree with Dr No “aka” Councilman Jim Walker. Shouldn’t we be paying attention to traffic and the distracted drivers who are texting while driving rather than pointing our phones at QR codes while changing lanes?

I believe Councilman Walker is correct. In looking at those renderings, I'm reminded of the quote by the great Dolly Parton: "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."

I think "Doctor No" is correct. There wouldn't be enough time to read and it would also divert attention of drivers from the road.

Subscribe to Coppell Chronicle. Ditch the digital signage as Dr. No suggests!

That would be a much more effective use of city funds: Just buy everybody in Coppell a subscription. :)

Thanks for the election updates! Interesting article about the 700 homeowners applying for the rehab grants. Do you know if they are going to have a lottery to pick the winners or some other process? Also will they award just full grants of $10,000 or will they award partial grants to spread the money out.

I was told they would be doled out on a first-come, first-served basis, but the staff has to evaluate whether the earliest applicants are eligible and filled out their forms properly. I don’t know the answer to your second question.

James,

Rehab Grants are “up-to” $10,000k.

For example:

If a homeowner submits a quote for their rehab project at $8,000k total cost- the Rebate grant will be $4,000k. If a quote submitted is $25,000 total cost- the Rebate grant will be $10,000k (max).

Whatever the submitted quote is, the city will Rebate 50% up to $10,000k.

Several factors will determine how many households this Rehab grant money will serve. 10 households would be the minimum, but hopefully it will serve more.

Community Development:

“If approved for a grant, the City of Coppell will rebate 50% of construction costs and material costs subject to the maximum amount of $10,000 per property once an applicant has completed their exterior renovation project.”

I think "Dr. No" is right. There is probably a much better use for that extra $100K. Those kinds of signs aren't easy to read when you're driving by. And a QR code? Forget about it!

How about we encourage people to focus on their driving down these roads and not be trying to read signs at 40 miles per hour.

Digital signage? TACKY.

QR codes while driving? Sounds like a law suit in the making.

If approved how long before the City is selling ad space to pay for their operating cost? Just NO!

No digital signage. Spend the money elsewhere. Get rid of the (eye sore) telephone poles.

Digital signs are a good idea. Much better than signs at Frost Bank. I do believe QR codes are silly while trying to drive! That can not be handled at any speed.

I was seriously against the digital signage. Too much unnecessary light, distracting and ugly. But when I saw the option of the banners - that is 100 percent worse. Please don’t put those ugly banners up across the street. Looks cheap and not inviting. I recommend appropriately sized digital signs over those.

Btw, I travel Belt Line daily and always read the Cypress Water sign; although too big and too much light.

I got the time wrong for the Special Olympics soccer game at Buddy Echols Field on May 16. It's supposed to start at 5 p.m. and end by 6:30.

Why would we spend $100,000 towards digital signs that clutter the medians and advertise stuff for The Sound? I would have thought that we would have advertised what we have going on here in Coppell.

I think you’re conflating two types of signs. The signs the city is considering buying would promote Coppell events. The sign already in place that promotes Cypress Waters events was purchased by the Billingsleys.
